LANGALAND

LANGALAND

2027 — 90 min

On the outskirts of Cape Town, where coloured communities still live in historically segregated areas, one can witness high levels of crime, as well as social and health problems. However, the freedom of self-expression, talent, and authenticity of the residents are rarely noticed.

Langaland follows one day in the life of several individual artists from Langa, Cape Town’s oldest township, diving deep into their struggles, artistry, and unique voices. The documentary musical shifts between reality and fantasy, moving smoothly from the characters’ real lives to their dreams and imaginations. The film opens the doors to the everyday lives of this vibrant yet highly marginalized community, raising questions about post-Apartheid realities, the influence of Western culture on indigenous traditions and identities, and inviting viewers on a colorful, exciting journey into the land of Langa.
